Which build is mine?
Each page covers one kind of job: what JDT builds, the order the work goes in, the permit rule quoted from the City, and how it is priced.
What goes into each one?
| Build | Starts with | Ends with |
|---|---|---|
| Covered porch | Taking the old porch, stairs and railings down, then concrete footings | A roof tied into the house: shingles, flashing, soffit, fascia and eavestrough |
| Deck | Concrete footings for the posts | Decking, stairs, railings and the trim around the frame |
| Garage | Footings below the frost line and the slab | Trusses, the roof, and the doors and windows |
Do I need a permit?
Usually. The City of Hamilton needs a permit for any porch or deck attached to the house, and for a detached garage over 15 square metres. The City lists every project that needs one on its building permit page (City of Hamilton, read October 30, 2026), and each build page quotes the rule for its own job. Under JDT's agreement the permit is applied for in your name and you pay the City's fees, and JDT supplies the drawings it has and answers the plan examiner's questions about its work. The agreements page has the wording.
How do I start?
Call (905) 818-0106, or send a request with photos of the house and the spot where the new work goes.
