What we build

JDT Construction Inc. is a general contractor for homeowners in Hamilton: renovations, additions, additional dwelling units (ADUs) and new builds. The builds on this page are covered porches, decks and garages. Each one is drawn on your own house first, written up as one proposal with the whole scope and price, and built in stages, with a payment as each stage is finished. The build pages below say what goes into each job and when the City of Hamilton needs a permit.

## Which build is mine?

Each page covers one kind of job: what JDT builds, the order the work goes in, the permit rule quoted from the City, and how it is priced.

- [Covered porches: A new porch with its own roof, from the footings to the shingles.](https://www.jdtconstruction.ca/builds/covered-porches/)
- [Decks: Footings, a pressure treated frame, decking, stairs and railings.](https://www.jdtconstruction.ca/builds/decks/)
- [Garages: A detached garage framed and roofed on its own slab.](https://www.jdtconstruction.ca/builds/garages/)

## What goes into each one?

**JDT's three builds at a glance**

| Build | Starts with | Ends with |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [Covered porch](https://www.jdtconstruction.ca/builds/covered-porches/) | Taking the old porch, stairs and railings down, then concrete footings | A roof tied into the house: shingles, flashing, soffit, fascia and eavestrough |
| [Deck](https://www.jdtconstruction.ca/builds/decks/) | Concrete footings for the posts | Decking, stairs, railings and the trim around the frame |
| [Garage](https://www.jdtconstruction.ca/builds/garages/) | Footings below the frost line and the slab | Trusses, the roof, and the doors and windows |

## Do I need a permit?

Usually. The City of Hamilton needs a permit for any porch or deck attached to the house, and for a detached garage over 15 square metres. The City lists every project that needs one on its [building permit page (City of Hamilton, read October 30, 2026)](https://www.hamilton.ca/build-invest-grow/construction-renovation/residential-building-renovation/building-permit), and each build page quotes the rule for its own job. Under JDT's agreement the permit is applied for in your name and you pay the City's fees, and JDT supplies the drawings it has and answers the plan examiner's questions about its work. The [agreements page](https://www.jdtconstruction.ca/terms/) has the wording.

## How do I start?

Call [(905) 818-0106](tel:+19058180106), or [send a request](https://www.jdtconstruction.ca/request/) with photos of the house and the spot where the new work goes.
